Make your yard or garden a pollinator paradise with these buzz-worthy tips.

Think local. For an easier germination process, opt for plants that are native to your area. Check with your local garden center for recommendations on plants that thrive in your growing zone.
Let it grow. Designate a section of your lawn where the grass can grow longer. Tall blades provide shelter for some insects to lay their eggs, while shorter lengths make it easier for animals to find food.
Leave the leaves. Avoid raking leaves in the colder months, as many species of insects and animals use them for shelter.
Ditch fertilizers. To help create a compatible relationship between your garden and wildlife, avoid certain toxic chemicals. This allows beneficial creatures like pollinators, natural predators and decomposers to thrive.
Plant for pollinators. Grow a variety of plants that bloom throughout the year in order to keep butterflies, moths and bees continually coming back. Select flowers of different shapes and sizes that appeal to a wide array of insects.
